about XII General Meeting of Coalition “For Improving Transparency in
Extractive Industries” of Public Unions
Coalition For
Improving Transparency in Extractive Industry (EITI) has held its following
XII General Meeting on 21 February 2009 in the conference hall of Caspian
Plaza. Coordinator of Coalition Council Azer Mehtiyev gave information about
done works by Coalition Council in 2008-2009 periods, main directions of the
program, development of international relations, validation process of EITI,
existing obstacles and future plans.
There was mentioned in information that, Coalition members are 130 now, 116 of them are NGOs and 14 are individual members. Coalition Coordinator signified that, in last periods Coalition’s influence is increased on international level and he mentioned that, in this period meetings have been held with Validator group, representative of Coffey International Company Tim Ruffer- who conducts transparency initiative in Extractive Industry of Azerbaijan, expert on oil-gas sector of IPAN Company Trond Kubberud, and with director of “Balance-Audit” Company that is functioning in Azerbaijan Ali Nabiyev in the office of EITI Coalition. The purpose of the meeting was to find out the position of Coalition connected to implementation EITI process in Azerbaijan. The coordinator noted that, 9th report on EITI and opinions of Auditor Company have been analyzed and particular opinion of Coalition has been explained. Besides of it, the future action plan of EITI Coalition has been submitted at the General Meeting. The working group consisted of 5 persons has been created for the purpose of improving statue of Coalition. After general lectures thoughts of Coalition members have been listened. There were discussions around of matters related to function of Coalition. Council member Alimammad Nuriyev and Coalition member Ingilab Ahmadov gave profound information about results of conference of EITI Secretariat held in Doha and decided decisions. One of the discussed issues was about empty place in the Monitoring Group. Several suggestions have been sounded connected to this matter, and there was decided that, the group will continue its function to the next General Meeting in this group consisted of 4 persons.
